The IRS has created a ‘Get My Payment Tool’. Many taxpayers are struggling to locate themselves using the system. We outline how to navigate the IRS Get My Payment tool to ensure you can update your direct deposit information, if you have not already done so. The IRS has also released a waiver for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE); this affects those who have returned to the US due to COVID-19 that otherwise would have stayed abroad to meet FEIE requirements.
Brief synopsis:
US Residents with social security numbers, residing anywhere, pending income eligibility, will receive up to $1,200 per adult & $500 per child under the age of 17
If the IRS has your direct deposit info from previous years (from sending you a refund) you cannot update it
If the IRS does not have your direct deposit information (mailed refund check or you owed tax), you can use the tool to provide bank account information to the IRS. The article outlines tips & tricks to find yourself; especially helpful for those with foreign addresses
If you filed 2018 with out-of-date information, file 2019 ASAP with updated information
